SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The overnight hostage-taking drama at a northwest San Antonio house is over, apparently without a hostage. Police went to the house in response to a domestic disturbance report. They feared that a man was barricaded inside with a female hostage. But after surrounding the house for about four hours, they entered the house early today and found it empty.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Officials say they don't suspect a hate crime in the shooting death of a gay sailor standing guard at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base near San Diego. Seaman August Provost of Houston was found shot multiple times Tuesday in what investigators say was a random act unrelated to the 29-year-old's sexuality. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service has taken what they call a "person of interest" into custody, but it hasn't filed any charges.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - Preliminary autopsy cite soot inhalation and severe burns in the death of a man found in the rubble of a Corpus Christi house leveled by an explosion. Jamie Flanagan was among three people whose bodies were found in the rubble after the blast on June 18. The Nueces County medical examiner says 14-year-old Nostalgia Baker was killed by the blast and also had head trauma, while 55-year-old Deletha Baker had been stabbed to death.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - San Antonio police suspect heat may have factored in the deaths of 82-year-old identical twin sisters at their home. Authorities say no one had heard from the women since June 26. Police found the single window air conditioner in the home turned off. One woman was lying on a couch; the other was in a rocking chair. Neighbors tell the San Antonio Express-News the women lived on a fixed income and weren't likely to spend money on cooling the home.

Man indicted for injuring his baby boy

ABILENE  --  An Abilene man accused of biting his 3-month old baby all over his body has been indicted.  Police arrested 19-year-old Damon Greenhaw back in March for allegedly biting the infant when he wouldn't stop crying.  His injured little boy was treated and released at Hendrick Medical Center.  If Greenhaw is convicted of this third degree felony, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Man indicted in drunk driving death

ABILENE  --  A suspected drunk-driver who police say caused a fatal crash has been indicted for intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault.  Police say 28-year-old Clifford Bruneau, also known as Clifford Cartwright, blew through a stop sign and rammed head-on into a concrete column.  It happened at South first and Arnold Boulevard on New Years Eve.  That crash took the life of a passenger inside Cartwright's truck, 22-year-old Cisco Junior College student, Krystal Limones.  Another passenger, 24-year-old Mazie Paulino, was critically injured.

Craigslist Scam Targets Renters

ABILENE -- A new web scam is targeting prospective tenants.  The Better Business Bureau says crooks are using sites like Craigslist to list properties for rent at an extremely low cost.  While the properties are real, they're not actually up for rent.
Thieves disguised as local realtors then try to make a deal with you, take your cash, and jet.  The BBB says military families, students, and those from out of town who aren't familiar with local rates, become easy targets.

To avoid rental fraud, stick with listings you know, and make sure deals are made in person.  Do your homework - find out local rates and keep an eye out for extra low rents.  Also, independently check the rental property - and always be suspicious of any payments using wire transfer services.
