1 killed, 7 injured in Nolan County crash; 3 kids not wearing seatbelts
NOLAN COUNTY, Texas - Three of the five kids injured in a deadly wreck Friday evening, south of Sweetwater, were not wearing seatbelts, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Athena Barney, 8, Autumn Barney, 6, and Easton Barney, 5, all of Belton, were all seriously injured when their SUV skidded into oncoming traffic, hit a car and rolled.
Athena and Autumn were taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Easton was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
Connie Marie Lee, 41, of Buda, a passenger in the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety, Evan Wayne Barney, 31, of Belton, was headed north on Hwy 70.
Around 5 p.m., he lost control of his Dodge Durango, went into a side skid and into the southbound lanes.
The Durango then hit a Kia Forte and rolled.
Barney was transported to Hendrick with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Kia, Joseph Eric Boyles, 25, of Buda, was taken to Hendrick in critical condition.
One of his other passengers, Kalleia Hurtado, 6, was also critically injured. She was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock.
An 11-year-old boy in the car, Johnathan Lee, was transported to Rolling Plains. His injuries are non-life threatening.
