2nd Annual Boss Memorial Car and Bike Show honors fallen officers
ABILENE, Texas - The 2 nd Annual Boss Memorial Car and Bike Show took place at Trade Days of West Texas. Money raised will be donated to the Correctional Peace Officer's Foundation and the Metroplex Concerns of Police Survivors.
Donna Davis founded this event after a bus crash that happened near Odessa.
"This originally started because my husband, Christopher Davis, was one of the Correctional Officers that was killed in the prison bus crash in 2015 along with Officer Garcia," Davis said.
Correctional Officer Christopher Davis and Eligio Garcia Jr. passed away in a bus crash along with 8 inmates.
The bus was transporting the inmates from a facility near Abilene to El Paso when icy roads caused the bus to lose control, sail off an icy I-20 overpass and strike a train passing below.
Davis said this is her way of giving back to other families who are affected by tragedies. She came up with having a car show because her husband loved cars.
"We used to go to car shows together," Davis said. "When we bought our El Camino of course when Christopher was still with us, we tried to get it restored. After he passed away I restored the El Camino and I thought what a great way to honor him is to bring my car out to car shows."
Garcia's family helped put this annual event on as well.
"Jr. was the quiet one in the family. He'd be shaking his head," said Garcia's Sister, Yolanda Stapp.
Stapp said Garcia wouldn't want this much attention, but she knows he'd be happy that his family continues to honor him.
At 8 a.m. on April 22 nd Davis said they will have their 2 nd Annual Boss Memorial Run at Kent's Harley Davidson.
