3 arrested in Abilene for separate incidents of injury to a child

Amanda Merryman, Kathleen Wood, and Chad Carter were arrested April 6 on separate incidents of injury to a child.

ABILENE, Texas - Three people were booked into the Taylor County Jail Thursday on separate charges of felony injury to a child.

Amanda Merryman, 29, faces a third-degree felony charge of injury to a child for allegedly choking a nine-year-old in December.

Court records say the child started crying because Merryman was going to leave. That's when Merryman grabbed the child by the throat and pushed into a nearby door. The child later said they couldn't yell during a game because of the injuries.

Merryman was booked and released on a $5,000 bond.

Another Abilene woman, Kathleen Wood, 35, stands accused of grabbing a child by the face in October.

Police say that bruises appeared on the child after being dropped off with the mother. The mother reported the injuries and the child confirmed Wood's actions to police.

Wood is charged with state jail felony injury to a child. She was released on a $5,000 bond.

And a spanking from 2009 landed an Abilene man in jail for third-degree felony injury to a child, according to court documents.

Police responded to a call for service in September 2009, and found the child had bruises on the buttocks. Chad Carter, 34, later admitted to hitting the child on the buttocks with a belt.

Carter was booked and released on a $10,000 bond.
