Abilene family returns home to find fire inside
ABILENE, Texas - An Abilene family will be staying with relatives after a fire caused smoke damage throughout their home Wednesday evening.
The call went out around 6:30 p.m. for a house in the 3100 block of S. 4th Street after the family returned home and opened the door to smoke. Firefighters with the Abilene Fire Department found the haze emanating from inside.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames, but smoke caused an estimated $15,000 worth of damage to the home. A battalion chief at the scene said the fire likely originated from a space heater, but investigators were still working to determine how the fire spread.
No one was injured by the fire.
