Abilene High ready for next opportunity
ABILENE, Texas - After three disappointing losses to begin the season, the Abilene High Eagles are ready for the next opportunity, and they're thankful its coming sooner than usual.
AHS will play Odessa High on Thursday at Shotwell Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
"If you lose a game on Friday that next week is long until you get to play," head coach Del Van Cox said. "These guys put in lots of hours and Thursday can't get here soon enough."
The Eagles lost to rival Cooper in their last game. AHS trailed 49-7 midway through the fourth quarter, but rallied to score 28 points before the Crosstown Showdown ended.
However, throughout much of the night they had trouble containing and bringing down Cooper running back Tyrees Whitfield, who scored all seven of the Cougars' touchdowns.
"That's something we're going to have to get better at, is tackling and getting stronger so we can tackle. There were some encouraging things that happened, late in the game especially. There are some things to build on."
