4 Abilene runners complete prestigious Boston marathon
ABILENE, Texas - Four Abilene runners qualified for and ran in Monday's prestigious Boston marathon.
Hundreds of thousands run marathons every year and just more than 30,000 entered this year's Boston event.
Sponsored by the Abilene Running Company, David Lynn, Charlette Squyres, Julie Anderson, and JB Batiste succeeded in finishing.
"By the miracle of God, I finished the race. So it's done. Go Abilene. Boston Strong," said Batiste after finishing the marathon in 4 hours, 21 minutes.
David Lynn, who entered in the Male 55-59 category, finished in 3 hours, 12 minutes, averaging a 7:20 minute/mile.
Charlette Squyres, in the Female 45-49 category, finished in 3 hours 40 minutes, averaging a 8:25 minute/mile.
Julie Anderson, in the Female 18-39 category, finished in 3 hours, 30 minutes, averaging a 8:02 minute/mile.
The top finishing male was Geoffrey Kirui from Kenya who finished in just 2 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds. The fastest female was Edna Kiplagat who crossed the finish line at 2 hours, 21 minutes and 52 seconds.
