Making resolutions part of first day hike at Abilene State Park
ABILENE, Texas - Dozens of people started the New Year on the right foot on a hike at the Abilene State Park.
All 95 State Parks across Texas held their annual first day hike.
"It is our goal to get everybody out the first of the year to start their life out healthy, happy to enjoy our state parks," Assistant Superintendent Tracy Mays said.
Mays led the group throughout the morning hike. She said it marked Abilene State Parks' second year participating in the first day resolution hike.
"A lot of people they like to do their resolutions and they make them mentally," Mays said. "But, when they write them down and it just shows up one day on their doorstep, it reminds them that they write that down."
Erica Lam came out with her family to celebrate the New Year. The hike also gave her time to think about what she wants her New Year's resolution to be.
"It's a nice day so we figured we'd bring the kids out to get some energy out," Lam said.
After the hike, all the hikers had the chance to write down their resolutions. The Abilene State Park will mail the hikers their New Year's resolutions near the end of the year.
