Abilene woman, boyfriend accused of killing their newborn to be tried separately
ABILENE, Texas - The Abilene couple charged with the January 2016 murder of their newborn baby will not stand trial together. Amber Craker and her boyfriend, Damian Cate , were in court Thursday afternoon for a pre-trial hearing. During the hearing, Judge James Eidson decided the couple will be tried separately. He also scheduled Craker's trial for June 12. Craker and Cate are accused of stabbing Ashley Nevaeh Cate multiple times on Jan. 18, 2016 at the couple's home on South 25th Street. They then hid her body in a trash can. Craker was taken to the hospital for bleeding and doctors determined she had just given birth. But she did not have an infant with her, so hospital officials called police.
