Abilene woman starts fire in hospital after arrest for forgery, meth
ABILENE, Texas - Abilene police say a woman started a fire in a bathroom near an oxygen facility at Hendrick Medical Center Tuesday after being picked up on a warrant for other charges.
According to an arrest report, police contacted 33-year-old Rashell Preslar on a search warrant, and she confessed to passing two forged checks at a bank in Abilene.
Police say they found a small amount of methamphetamine in her possession and they also found a rifle. Preslar has a felony conviction from 2016, prohibiting her from owning a firearm.
Preslar was taken to HMC, though police don't say why she needed treatment in the report, and that's where she locked herself in a bathroom and set fire to a trash can. She admitted to setting the fire, and she was taken to the Taylor County Jail, police said.
Preslar is charged with forgery of financial instrument, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of firearm by felon, and arson. She's being held on bonds totaling $29,000.
