Brown County Sheriff's Office investigating theft at Lake Brownwood Lions Club
LAKE BROWNWOOD, Texas - An incident report shows the Brown County Sheriff's Office is investigating a reported theft of between $30,000 and $150,000.
The alleged theft happened at the Lake Brownwood Lions Club and two suspects have been identified, according to the report.
The sheriff's office stated that a deputy was contacted on July 24 by club president Jimmy Hicks. Hicks said "a known suspect stole several thousands of dollars."
But the theft is having another effect on an innocent person. A parent who wanted to remain anonymous shared a letter with KTXS that her son received from the Lake Brownwood Lions Club.
"We regret to inform you that we are not able to honor this commitment," the letter stated, referring to a promised scholarship for $500, according to the parent. "The circumstances surrounding this embarrassing situation have been turned over to the Brown County Sheriff''s Department for future investigation."
Hicks declined to comment on this story.
