Brownwood city council adopts new budget and tax rate
BROWNWOOD, Texas - Brownwood City Council met Tuesday morning for about an hour and a half to tackle several items on the agenda, including a new tax rate.
The new budget and tax rate was approved on third and final reading. Council members unanimously voted in favor of doing both Tuesday.
This is the first tax rate hike in 18 years for Brownwood residents. People with a home valued at $100,000 will now be paying $790 a year in taxes.
Members also approved increases to city fees and utility rates.
According to the city, a combination of increases to the tax rate and fees will result in an overall monthly impact of $7.05 per household. That figure is based on the average property value of $93,000 and average water and sewage usage.
