Brownwood City Council passes new budget, tax rate on 1st reading
BROWNWOOD, Texas - Brownwood City Council is on its way to approving a new fiscal budget and tax rate.
At Tuesday's meeting, all Brownwood council members voted in favor of adopting the new fiscal budget, tax rate, utility rates, and miscellaneous fees.
Mayor Stephen Haynes wasn't present at the meeting.
This was only the first reading of the ordinances that members adopted. Next Tuesday, council members will vote again on second and third reading for approving the new rates.
If council members move at the next meeting to adopt the new tax rate, city residents with a home valued at $100,000 will be paying $790 in property taxes.
