Brownwood man pleads guilty, ordered to pay back $127,000 he stole from employer
BROWNWOOD, Texas - A Brownwood man pleaded guilty for taking more than $127,000 from his employer and will now have pay the full amount back as part of his plea.
John Lykes, 45, was arrested last year after the Brown County Sheriff's Office learned he stole from the company M and F Gauge, according to court documents.
The theft happened during a four-year period while he worked there and contributed to the company having to lay off employees.
On Friday, Lykes pleaded guilty in the 35th Judicial District Court to a theft-aggregated charge.
As part of his plea, Lykes was given probation for 10 years, ordered to pay $127,523, and fined $1,500, according to court documents.
The sheriff's office said at the time Lykes wrote checks to himself and a business he owned in Brownwood.
Lykes was required to pay $2,500 in restitution up front before his plea was granted.
