Brownwood man leads police on chase, tries assaulting them

BROWNWOOD, Texas - A man was placed in handcuffs after leading Brownwood police on a foot chase Thursday night.

Police attempted to pull over 27-year-old Nolberto Martinez Jr., but he sped off and "exited his vehicle and fled on foot," according to a news release. Police said Martinez had an active warrant for his arrest.

They located Martinez hiding under a house on the 500 block of Walnut Street, according to police. Martinez refused to leave the hiding space and then tried to flee again, while allegedly trying to assault the arresting officers.

Police were able to eventually take Martinez into custody. He faces several charges, including resisting arrest, evading arrest, and assault on a public servant.

He's being held in the Brown County Jail on bonds totaling $25,000.
