BROWNWOOD, Texas - The city of Brownwood welcomed its new fire chief on Monday as Mayor Stephen Haynes swore him in to his new role.

Eddy Wood was presented with the chief badge and a white helmet in front of his family, city officials, and fellow firefighters at the Central Fire Station located at 600 E. Adams Street.

Brownwood City Council approved Wood for the job in February after searching for a replacement to Del Albright, who retired last November.

"You guys are not only here to protect, to preserve, and to defend, but also you inherit, in a way, the city of Brownwood," Mayor Haynes said at Monday's ceremony. "I know you're new to Brownwood but I hope you find this a place you can call home for a long time."

Wood comes to the job with more than 25 years of years experience.

He spent the majority with the North Richland Hills Fire Department, where he was Battalion Chief for nine years before assuming his new chief role.
