Catfish released into Nelson Park pond for neighborhood fishing
ABILENE, Texas - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the city of Abilene teamed up to make a special delivery Friday morning at Nelson Park in Abilene.
Big nets of catfish were dumped into the pond there. It ' s part of this year ' s channel catfish stockings for the neighborhood fishing program at the park.
It ' s a program that ' s brought to urban areas for families and anyone interested in fishing.
" Fishing is what we call a gateway sport. You know, people who experience fishing tend to have interests that develop in other areas of the outdoors, " said Michael Homer, district fisheries biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the city of Abilene, the Abilene Zoo along with several other organizations and sponsors, will host a free outdoor expo called, " Abilene Outdoor Adventures, " from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., June 3, at Nelson Park.
