City of Abilene selects firm to negotiate potential downtown hotel project

ABILENE, Texas - The Abilene City Council has voted to give City Manager Robert Hanna permission to move forward with negotiations with a firm to oversee the possible development and construction of a downtown convention-style hotel project.

Hanna says Garfield Public/Private has been selected as the firm to begin those negotiations. A meeting between the firm and the city is set for February.

Hanna says he hopes to be able to come to terms on the project with Garfield within six months.

While Hanna isn't able to disclose the hotel company that Garfield would likely partner with and bring to downtown Abilene, he says the firm has had a lot of experience working with the company on past projects.

Four firms submitted responses to the city's request for proposals on a downtown convention-style hotel and festival district last year. Those submissions were received in late October, and the city has since been working to determine the proposal that would best fit the city's needs.
