City of Abilene staff recommends extending alcohol sales to 2 a.m.
ABILENE, Texas - The Abilene City Council is set to take up the first reading of an ordinance this week that would extend the sale of alcohol to 2 a.m. at local retail establishments and private clubs.
According to this week's meeting agenda, city staff recommends the approval of the ordinance, as detailed in the weekly meeting agenda memo.
"The hours of sale and public consumption may be extended to 2 a.m. every night to a holder of a mixed beverages late hours permit, a holder of a retail dealer's on-premise late hours permit, and to a holder of a private club late hours permit."
Also on this week's agenda is the second and final reading of an ordinance that would regulate some of the practices of so-called payday lenders.
