ABILENE, Texas - Saturday on homecoming, McMurry football took a 16 point deficit at the half and turned it into a 12 point victory over Belhaven at Wilford Moore Stadium, giving coach Lance Hinson's team a ton of confidence heading into the stretch run of 2017.

Kevin Hurley Jr. made his return from injury in the second half, inheriting that 23-7 deficit - and he took it and went off. Hurley throwing 4 touchdowns and 245 yards passing in the comeback win, earning him this week's American Southwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

But more importantly, it was the War Hawks who proved they can overcome, and in the process, are now finally starting to click.

"Since camp, we've been doing a lot of stuff in practice that we just haven't translated to the game," said Hurley at Tuesday's press conference. "But I feel like that's what's happening now. You know, everybody is just starting to believe it."

And Saturday's rally also helping teach them a good deal about each other - and what they can achieve.

"Now you have something tangible," said head coach Lance Hinson. "You see that you guys can put up 35 points in one half -- almost like bam, bam, bam. That's experience that's invaluable. What we do with it here on out will tell us a lot more."

The War Hawks travel to Louisiana College for another ASC match-up on Saturday.
