ABILENE, TX - Cooper baseball opened up the 2017 season on Friday, as it marked the first chance for high schools to get on the field and start working for the season opener.

It's cooper's second year with Cody Salyers as head coach, and the Coogs are coming off a successful 2016 season -- which ended in the regional quarterfinals.

"We have good team chemistry," added senior first baseman Aaron Jonas. "Everyone's close and it's fun. Every practice is fun. Every game is fun.

Cooper returns a handful of veterans from that group, and Friday's opening practice brought a lot of optimism as the players just couldn't wait to hit the field.

"Typically physics...physics, I'm real into it, sixth period, but today I could not focus," said junior Andrew Benson. "I come out here seventh period for baseball and I was ready."

"We're just playing loose, so I think that's our biggest thing -- team chemistry," added Jonas.

Benson added, "We're all brothers. We give our best effort all the time. I know that's mainstream, but it's just how it is with us."

Cooper begins its season on February 7 th at Odessa High.
