ABILENE, TX - On the pitch, it's been quite the start for Cooper girls soccer.

First year head coach Robert Alvarez's team is 5-0 to start the 2017 season -- in a near turnaround from a year ago.

Cooper has dominated its games so far including a Crowley tournament title last week. They also dominated Tuesday night's home game against Wichita Falls Rider in which they recorded nearly 30 shots on goal and only allowed 4.

Leading into this week's tournament in Austin, the keys to the Lady Coogs early success have been pretty simple.

"We really haven't worked anything but defensive principles up to this point," said head coach Robert Alvarez at Wednesday's practice. "That's been the backbone of our team so far, the back line. We've only given up like three goals this season so far, so that's where we start. We want to start with a solid back and then we work our way forward."
