Cooper's college-bound student-athlete class totals 16 after Thursday's signing day
ABILENE, TX - Another busy day for student athletes announcing college plans this Thursday, and it may just be the biggest signing class for the Cooper Cougars in recent years.
Cooper holding a signing day featuring nine more students Thursday afternoon - yes, nine student-athletes signing their letters of intent to play college athletics. That number adding the total for this year's class to 16.
Most of them are staying local, with Kendrick James, Brandon Miller, and Colin Hollingsworth headed to Hardin-Simmons University for football, baseball, and tennis.
The hoops duo of Elijah Johnson and Isaac Moreno -- plus softball's Mikayla Tripaldi are all McMurry University-bound, with Tripaldi joining the brand new softball program under former AHS coach David McNally.
John Arellano will suit up for ACU Wildcat football as the lone-Division I signee.
Two-sport athlete, Austin Smith will focus on baseball, committing to Ranger Junior College, and Kiara Jones will go the farthest -- to Schreiner for tennis.
Athletic Director Todd Moebes said this large class, speaks volumes of the success in both academics and athletics at Cooper
Also aiding in future success, not just in the present.
"It's creating a vision more so for our younger student athletes and I think it's great," said Moebes. "They've got to obviously perform and prepare very well to be able to have the opportunity to go play at the next level and I'm very proud of their accomplishments."
