Cooper's Whitfield proves he's good-to-go with 4 TDs

ABILENE, Texas - The Cooper Cougars started the season with a 48-35 victory at Keller High, and the offensive explosion was led by running back Tyrees Whitfield.

After breaking his collarbone over the summer, Whitfield proved he's good to go with 178 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the week one win.

"For him to get out there and put those worries behind him, have the night that he had, was tremendous," Cooper head coach Todd Moebes said.

Whitfield did not participate in 7-on-7 and went through mostly non-contact drills during fall practice. He did not play in Cooper's only scrimmage against San Angelo Central.

"Certainly he did a great job of being able to get to the line of scrimmage when there wasn't anybody there that credits the guys up front. He made some really nice runs in the open field, making guys miss. He's a great running back. He brings a little bit of everything to the table."

Cooper will next host Grapevine on Friday, Sept. 8, with kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
