Report: Driver who fatally struck ACU student was intoxicated
ABILENE, Texas - The driver who fatally struck a bicyclist at a north Abilene intersection in November was intoxicated, according to an updated accident report obtained Wednesday.
Abilene Christian University student Casey Ellis, 21, was struck by a car when she crossed into the intersection at Ambler Avenue and Judge Ely Boulevard around 10:45 p.m. Nov. 23. She was wearing a helmet but was pronounced dead after being taken to Hendrick Medical Center.
The updated accident report says the driver of the car had a blood-alcohol content of 0.13 percent. The legal limit of intoxication in Texas is 0.08 percent.
Ellis entered the intersection when the driver had the right of way, according to the report.
The driver hasn't been criminally charged at this time, but KTXS reached out to the Taylor County District Attorney's Office to learn if he will be charged. The DA's office hasn't yet responded to that inquiry.
We have chosen not to publish the driver's name as he is not charged with a crime.
