Eagles celebrate season at annual football banquet
ABILENE, TX - The Abilene High football banquet was held on Monday evening, to honor the 2016 season that saw the Eagles advance to the third round of the postseason.
Players, parents, cheerleaders and coaches all gathered to celebrate and recognize the Eagles achievements -- including district 3-6A champions and an 11-2 record.
It also was a season of records, as Abram Smith became the schools' all-time leading rusher.
The Eagles lost to eventual state champions DeSoto in the 3 rd round, a game that went down to the wire and one many are still talking about today.
But a banquet is all about cherishing the memories of the season, and for the senior class, it was a night to reflect all the great times they had together.
"A lot of great memories," said senior Dackota Triano. "It was just a blessing to be a part of, and thankful to God for letting me a part of such a great team. To go so far in the playoffs -- not many people can say they've done that."
"The group of guys that we came up -- the senior class," added senior Coy McMillon. "There's nothing like it. For sure, the most fun season I've had."
