Fire destroys elderly man's home in Brown County


BROWN COUNTY, Texas - An elderly man in Brown County lost his home to fire Saturday morning.

Around 11 a.m. the Brownwood, Early, Bangs, May, and Zephyr fire departments responded to the fire in the 100 block of Roberts Lane between Early and Zephyr.

"One elderly gentlemen lived there and he got out safely," May Volunteer Fire Chief Bo Allen said.


Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston said several people reported smelling gas a few days before the fire.

"Two family members and a home health nurse had smelled gas when they were in the house," Preston said.

The elderly man lived alone, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
