First look at plan for south Abilene shopping center featuring Burlington store

ABILENE, Texas - A building setback variance has been approved for a new shopping development called Abilene Village.

Plans submitted to the city of Abilene show the center, located on the city's south side, will be off of South Clack Street and Curry Lane, just south of the Shops at Abilene. The property is currently owned by McGavock Nissan.

Abilene Village plans show the building of space that would include at least four retail stores, as well as three separate structures directly off of South Clack.

A vehicle bridge would cross over Catclaw Creek and connect Abilene Village to Shops at Abilene.

Burlington has confirmed its plan to open a 40,000-square-foot store at Abilene Village in the spring of 2018.

In a statement released earlier this year, Burlington announced plans to hire between 50 and 100 people for its Abilene location that will include men and women's clothing, home decor, children's clothing, and a Baby Depot.

We spoke with McGavock Nissan Sales Manager Jay Martinez, who says the dealership cannot comment on any plans to move. Martinez is able to say that McGavock has plans to build a new facility, but its location has yet to be determined. It will be either at its existing site or on a new property.

The plan for Abilene Village will move next to the Abilene Planning and Zoning Commission for approval. Abilene City Council would then have a final vote on the development.
