Girl scouts pick up thousands of boxes of cookies for 2017 season
ABILENE, Texas - More than 300 girl scouts were out in south Abilene Saturday picking up more than 46,000 boxes of cookies.
The girls are getting ready for the start of their 2017 sales.
Among the cookies distributed will be the brand new S'mores cookies.
The girls said cookies are more than just delicious. They help build life skills too.
"I mean selling cookies is a great experience," said Stephanie Gustafson, a girl scout. "I've been doing it for about 10 years, and it's given me so many life skills that I'll need for being an adult. It gives you money management. It gives you people skills, business ethics, all these different skills that you need in life you can get from cookie sales."
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first known sale of cookies by girl scouts.
