Hayden Nix: Hot weather forecast for the weekend

ABILENE, Texas - Hot weather continues with the chance for late-day pop-up t-storms mainly for our western areas of the Big Country tonight and northern area on Saturday.

For today, we will start out with some scattered cloud cover then make our way to mostly sunny skies for the afternoon. Temperatures should warm to the upper 90s with winds out of the south at 10 to 20 mph. T-storms are forecast to develop in far West Texas this afternoon due to a weak disturbance aloft. They have the potential to make it into our western areas of the Big Country before fading out for the night.

Tonight, if any lingering showers are still ongoing they should fade out before midnight. Cloudy conditions will be expected from these t-storms after they fade for some time of the night. Temperatures will be warm again as we bottom out in the upper 70s. Winds will remain breezy from the south at 10 to 20 mph.

Cloud cover should transition to mostly sunny skies by Saturday at noon. Temperatures will be warm once again as we peak out in the upper 90s. A slight chance for a pop-up t-storm will be possible during the late afternoon and early evening hours for the extreme northern half of the Big Country.

We should stay dry for Sunday with mostly sunny skies with upper 90s and possibly low 100s.

Mostly sunny skies and heat stick around through at least Thursday of next week with upper 90s being reached each afternoon. Rain chances, at this time, are too low to mention in the forecast.
