Hayden Nix: Low 100s expected for the remainder of the week
ABILENE, Texas - Plain and simple, it's going to be hot. Dangerous heat for those who don't stay cool and hydrated if they have to be outside. So make sure to take care of yourself and those who are sensitive to these kind of temperatures.
Look for mostly sunny skies today with temperatures finishing out at or near 100 degrees. Winds will be breezy from the south at 15 to 25 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph will be possible. Some hazy conditions will be expected.
Tonight, mostly clear and warm weather continues. Overnight lows will return to the upper 70s with south winds ongoing at 15 to 25 mph.
Rain chances are almost zero over the rest of the week and into the weekend. The only reason why they are not zero is because extreme northwest parts of the Big Country may see a thundershower this afternoon and again on Wednesday and Thursday. Elsewhere will very likely stay dry.
Looking ahead, the ridge of high pressure that is providing the heat and dry weather may stick around for quite some time. Even though I don't like talking about the forecast beyond the 7-day frame due to low accuracy, the general trend continues to be in good agreement that the ridge stays through the end of the month.
