ABILENE, Texas - The college football season has flown by and Saturday marks the final game at home for the #6 Hardin-Simmons Cowboys, who were ranked second this week in the West Division, prepare for senior day against Belhaven .

26 seniors came to the program four years ago after HSU suffered yet another losing season and since their arrival, the Cowboys haven't had one ever since. HSU transitioning into a perennial ranked power that this season, has been in the top two in scoring offense and defense, in addition to total yards.

"They understand now what the standard is," said head coach Jesse Burleson at practice Thursday. "I mean, definitely the bar has been raised and we're not ever going lower it and not ever going to come back down."

The Cowboys have nine senior starters this season but Alex Bell is out for the season with an injury. All combined the seniors have 195 career starts under their belt with Riley Owens and Vic Rodriguez being the senior starters on offense. On defense, Jim LaFond, Tam Cortez, Cody Taylor, Donavon Hailey, Josh White, Matthew Hawkins and Reggie Davis are the starters.

Once again, HSU is molded and ready to make its bid for a postseason spot and while Saturday is just another game in the process, its also a time to reflect, and salute those veterans who've helped turn the program into what it is today.

"Every year it was always something different, but now the thing for us is to get over the hump," said senior DB and captain Reggie Davis. "People in the past and captains have always showed me how to be a leader, how to be tough, and how to fight through everything and so that's just something I try and take and show these guys here."

HSU and Belhaven kickoff from Shelton Stadium at 1 p.m.
