Jackson Elementary students in Abilene participate in cool video
ABILENE, Texas - Students at Jackson Elementary School provided a nice surprise for Abilene ISD's school board.
They participated in a video, filmed with a drone from high above, in which they spelled out "THANK YOU SCHOOL BOARD."
The video was featured - as part of School Board Recognition Month - at the school board's Jan. 9 meeting, Abilene ISD spokesman Phil Ashby said in an email.
Jackson Elementary School teacher Sharon Gilley organized the filming.
Gilley said she spent about two weeks "working with the logistics on paper" before it was filmed - using the drone - in early January by Charles Caddell, a district digital media communications specialist.
"Each classroom had two practices in the gym during their P.E. time before the Christmas break," Gilley said. "The first day back from vacation I had one grade level at a time come to the gym and had one practice outside with each group by themselves and filmed it at the end of that day.
"When it was filmed was the first time the whole school put it together! Jackson kiddos and teachers are amazing!"
