1 killed in jet crash near Laughlin AFB in Del Rio

DEL RIO, Texas - A T-38 Talon from Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio crashed Monday afternoon, killing one pilot and wounding another.

According to a news release from the U.S. Air Force, the jet crashed around 4 p.m. about 14 miles northwest of the Del Rio base.

Laughlin AFB officials say emergency personnel and first responders were on scene, but no information was provided about the surviving pilot's injuries.

The identities of those involved haven't been released at this time.

"We are a close knit family, and when a tragedy like this occurs every member of the U.S. Armed Forces feels it," Col. Michelle Pryor, 47th Flying Training Wing vice commander, said in a statement. "Our people take top priority, and we are committed to ensuring their safety and security."

Laughlin says more information will be made available later.
