KTXS Forecast: Cool with showers into Sunday
ABILENE, Texas - Colder air moved back into the area Tuesday afternoon. Light showers are forecast to develop over us Thursday night. Showery skies and near normal -cool- temperatures are forecast to stay for Friday and Saturday. A strong upper level disturbance should bring thunderstorms with heavy rainfall Sunday afternoon and evening.
Cloudy skies with light showers are forecast for Thursday night. Low temperatures should fall into the upper 30s north of I-20 and into the 40s south of I-20 Friday morning. There is a freezing rain advisory for counties just north of our viewing area (around and north of a line from Lubbock to Wichita Falls) for Friday.
Cloudy skies should persist over our area Friday with showers possible throughout the day. High temperatures should be in the 40s. Showers are expected to increase in coverage Friday night. Lows should be in the middle to upper 30s north of I-20 and in the 40s south of I-20 Saturday morning. Light amounts of freezing rain will be possible Friday night mainly north of a Snyder to Throckmorton line.
The wintry weather threat should move north of our area by Saturday afternoon. However, rain showers are likely over our area. High temperatures Saturday should be around 50. We may see a lull in the rain showers Saturday night. Low temperatures Sunday morning should be in the 40s.
Sunday should be warmer with highs in the 60s. The main part of the upper level low pressure system is forecast to race east through our area Sunday afternoon. A line of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and lightning are expected to move east through our area Sunday afternoon and evening. This heavy rainfall is expected to be east of area by midnight Sunday.
Partly cloudy skies with highs near 60 are forecast for MLK Monday.
