KTXS Forecast: Rainy days ahead

ABILENE, Texas - A large line of storms is moving into far west Texas this evening and the system providing the rain will be slowly moving closer to our area overnight and through the day tomorrow. It will be the main system bringing in much of the rain throughout a majority of this coming week.

The focus of rainfall will be in the western part of the area and decrease to the east. Highest rain totals in the west could be as high as 8 inches and decrease to 2 inches in eastern counties for the week.

Tonight will stay dry for the Big Country with cloud cover increasing overnight. Breezy conditions will continue and temperatures will get to the low 70s. A few rain showers may wake the western most counties early Sunday morning.

During the day Sunday, expect cloud cover and rain to move in from west to east throughout the day, making it mostly through the Big Country through the evening. Highs will be in the upper 80s with south/ southeast winds between 10 to 15 mph. Rain will continue to build in overnight and lows will be in the upper 60s/ low 70s.

Monday will be another rainy day with a 40 percent chance of rain and highs in the mid-80s. Winds will be from the southeast at 10 mph. Overnight, lows will be in the upper 60s/ low 70s. Rain is expected to continue overnight.

Tuesday, highs drop to the low 80s across the area and rain chances stay around. Expect a 50 percent chance of rain with the focus of rain in the western part of the Big Country. Winds will vary from the east to the north as a frontal boundary stays draped across the area. Overnight, lows will be in the upper 60s.

Wednesday and Thursday, expect the majority of the rain throughout the day and into the evening. Highs will be well below average in about the mid-70s. Lows overnight will be in the low to mid-60s.

Friday, rain chances finally start to work their way out of the area late Friday.
