KTXS Forecast: Tracking a hot holiday weekend, t-shower chances
ABILENE, Texas - Hot weather is a theme to the holiday weekend but we also cannot rule out the chance for a pop-up t-shower as well.
For today, we stay dry with mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching the mid-90s. Winds will be south-southeasterly at 10 to 15 mph.
Look for mostly clear skies tonight with overnight lows returning to the middle and lower 70s. Winds will stay out of the same direction tonight as through the day with speeds at 10 to 15 mph.
As we start the holiday weekend, Saturday should be mostly sunny and hot with mid-90s forecast by the afternoon. A pop-up t-shower cannot be ruled out mainly west of an Aspermont to Sweetwater line.
On Sunday, we are tracking a weak boundary that stalls out from near Lubbock, northeast along the Red River. Although this boundary is not expected to move into the area, it will provide a chance for a pop-up t-storm on Sunday afternoon and evening for the Big Country. Temperatures will also be hot as we top out in the middle to upper 90s under partly sunny skies.
For July 4th, Monday, we expect the stalled out boundary to remain in place but be considerably weaker. However, a small chance for a pop-up t-storm cannot be ruled out for mainly the northern parts of the Big Country.
We go back to a drier forecast for the remainder of next week but the heat will still remain as upper 90s are forecast for each day.
