Lady Coogs make back-to-back playoff trips
ABILENE, Texas - For a second straight year the Cooper softball team is heading to the playoffs.
It's the Lady Cougars first back-to-back appearances in seven years.
"It feels great because coming from a team that couldn't really do much, and having so much potential, but never following through, it feels great to actually have a chance to do something bigger than just end at district play," senior first baseman Kaitlyn Murphy said.
Cooper will have a tough first round match-up against eighth ranked Canyon (26-3, 14-0) in a three-game series.
But, the Lady Coogs beat Canyon in a tournament earlier this season.
"I feel pretty strong," senior pitcher Camille Scott said. "I feel like we have the better opportunity to be able to go down there, we've played on this field before. I feel confident that we're going to do perfectly fine. I feel like it's not going to be an easy win either way. "
Cooper will play Canyon on Friday at 6:30 p.m., with the second game of the set on Saturday at 11 a.m., and a deciding game three following if necessary. All games will be at Lubbock Monterey.
