ALBANY, TX - The Albany boys are playing impressive basketball to begin the 2017 New Year.

The Lions are 16-4 overall and are ranked 16 th in class 2A this week but it comes to no surprise. Albany has had success recently -- making it to the regional final last season.

But what sets this team apart this season, is this is the first senior class that Coach Ryder Peacock has coached since they were in 7th grade.

"This is a group of kids that are all my own, so I've known them a lot more than in years past," said coach Peacock at Monday's practice. "I think that's helped a lot, is just me knowing them. At the same time, they've learned me a little bit. When you combine all that together it's helped a lot."

"I definitely feel real comfortable," added senior Hunter Owen. "Growing up, playing with him ever since junior high I feel like we can cut and joke up in practice. When it comes to the games we both know what we need to get done."

The Lions return to action Tuesday at home against Hamlin.
