EASTLAND, Texas - Update: Residents in Eastland can once again use water from the tap without boiling it first. The boil water notice issued by the city after a water main break earlier this week was lifted Friday afternoon.

Previous story:

Customers in Eastland are being asked to boil water prior to consumption.

The announcement came hours after the city called for the "mandatory curtailment" of non-essential water usage for the "entire city." The city's request was the result of a leak in the main water supply line.

"Water pressure should begin returning in the city of Eastland over the next few hours," said Terry Simmons, a city code compliance official. "Once the system is up and running the city will be under the ... Boil Water Notice until further notice."

The city says it will notify customers when the Boil Water Notice is lifted.

KTXS will provide additional details as they become available.

Eastland is calling for a "mandatory curtailment" of non-essential water usage for the "entire city."

"Both storage tanks are empty and the city only has what water remains in the water lines," the city said Wednesday in what it called an "urgent" message.

The request is the result of a leak in the main water supply line, the city of Eastland news release said.

Customers in the city of Carbon and "some areas of Westbound Water Supply" are also effected, the release said.

"… It is hoped the repairs will be completed by late this afternoon."

The city is urging users to "please turn off any lawn sprinkling systems, swimming pools and other NON-ESSENTIAL watering until further notice."

Meanwhile, Eastland ISD schools have been closed "due to the severity of this situation," the district said in a message.

KTXS will provide additional details as they become available.

Previous story:

The city of Eastland called for severe water conservation Tuesday due to a "major leak" in the main water supply line.

According to a news release, customers along East Main Street from the 1,000 block east may be without water while repairs are made to the water line. Eastland Public Works says the repairs may take up to two days to be completed.

During that time, the city asks customers to curtail all non-essential water usage.

Eastland ISD Assistant Superintendent Jeremy Williams said the district will be closed while the city deals with the main break.
