McMurry football soaring with confidence after first win

ABILENE, Texas - The McMurry War Hawks are on the rise after earning their first win of the season, a 33-21 victory over Howard Payne in week three.

After two losses where the offense struggled to open the year, McMurry found its rhythm on Saturday.

The War Hawks led the Yellow Jackets 30-0 at halftime, led by quarterback Kevin Hurley's three touchdowns.

"To get out there, to score some touchdowns, to score some points, to get a lead, and to get other guys involved in the game. I think that will do wonders for our confidence," head coach Lance Hinson said.

"If you ask me, I feel like we have the potential to be the best offense in the conference," said Hurley, who also ran for 102 yards, which is the most by a McMurry quarterback since 2007.

"Knowing the weapons we have at running back and receiver, and knowing what I can do, it's one of the best offenses, I feel like."

The War Hawks will visit Sul Ross on Saturday at 6 p.m.
