ABILENE, Texas - Happy July 4th! For Monday afternoon expect to see temperatures at 100 degrees with heat index values between the 105-107 degree range. That being said, it's important that you stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat and wear sunscreen. Also never leave a child or pet in the car no matter if the windows are down or if it's just for a moment.

Skies will be mostly sunny with south winds at 5-15 mph. For Monday night lows will get to the mid/ upper 70s with mostly clear skies and south winds at 5-15 mph. There is a 10-20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms similar to what we saw last night. These are expected to stay mainly north of the I20 line. Currently models have the storms moving out by 10:30-11pm, so hopefully they won't disrupt any firework plans.

Tuesday through about Friday our highs are going to stay in the upper 90s/ low 100s with heat index values well into the triple digits. Skies will go from mostly sunny on Tuesday to partly cloudy by Friday. During this time period winds will be from the south at 10-15mph with gusts in the 20mph range. Lows through the work week are expected to be in the mid/ upper 70s with a lingering 10 percent chance of isolated showers.

For the upcoming weekend we are going to see a slight cooling trend. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the mid/ upper 90s with partly cloudy skies. Winds will be from the south at 10-15 mph with a 10 percent chance of isolated showers both days. Lows during the weekend will be in the mid-70s.

Monday is currently looking like it will also be partly cloudy with highs in the mid-90s and south winds at 10-15 mph.

Have a great 4th of July! Be sure to take precautions for the heat this week! -MV-
