Mother of Big Country sexual assault victim speaks out
LUEDERS, Texas - The mother of a young girl who was sexually assaulted is upset the suspect isn't going to prison. Instead, he received 10 years probation. Lloyd Kennedy, 40, pled guilty last Wednesday to sexually assaulting an 6-year-old girl. He was arrested in Taylor County back in July. The victim's mother who did not want to show her face said the assault happened in June. "[My daughter] disclosed to us about what happened. As soon as she told us I called the cops because that's what a mother should do and I pressed charges on him," said the victim ' s mother. "They put me on the witness stand and I looked at him and told him I forgive him for my daughter ' s sake, not his." She testified during Kennedy's trial, and when she looked him in the eye, she saw Kennedy cry. "I honestly thought, you know, he wouldn't do something like that. He was one of the last people I would've thought would do something like that. I trusted him and I put my trust in the wrong person," the victim ' s mother said. "I wanted him to go to prison, but she got her justice." Along with 10 years deferred adjudication, he must also pay a $5,000 fine, complete 320 hours of community service and register as a sex offender.
