Nearly $2,000 raised for Harvey relief at McMurry games
ABILENE, Texas - Close to $2,000 was raised for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts during two McMurry University sporting events this past week.
The gate proceeds from Saturday's first home football game against Howard Payne totaled $1,030, while $875 was donated during Wednesday's volleyball game between the War Hawks and Hardin-Simmons.
The money will be used to create "flood buckets", which contain about $65 worth of cleaning supplies each in order to help people along the Gulf Coast sanitize their homes.
McMurry student-athletes starting collecting items during an annual school year kick-off event. McMurry is working with the United Methodist Committee on Relief to organize the flood buckets.
