Police: No criminal charge after investigation at Abilene elementary school
ABILENE, Texas - According to the Abilene Police Department, no wrongdoing was found after an allegation of injury to a child at Johnston Elementary School.
A news release issued Thursday says the department began investigating the allegation on Nov. 2. The teacher, who has not been identified, was placed on administrative leave.
The investigation found that a kindergarten student was facing the wrong way in a line to re-enter the school building and the teacher corrected them without physical contact.
Police say the teacher had every right as an instructor to make the child face forward "in order to maintain discipline and good order."
KTXS has reached out to the Abilene Independent School District to learn the teacher's status.
AISD Superintendent Dr. David Young says the district is pleased with the outcome of APD's investigation, but the teacher is still on administrative leave until an internal investigation is completed. Young said the district hopes to have the matter resolved as soon as possible.
