Oklahoma chemistry teacher arrested& accused of raping student
YUKON, Okla. (KOKH/SBG) - A Yukon, Oklahoma teacher has been arrested and accused of raping a student.
Hunter Day, 22, was arrested Nov. 15 in Canadian County on a complaint of second degree rape, possession of child pornography and soliciting sex from a minor using technology.
Yukon Public Schools reports that they were notified of Day's arrest Wednesday and reports the teacher was having an "inappropriate relationship" with a high school student."This behavior was representative of a very poor decision by a person entrusted with teaching our students. The safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority. Yukon utilizes application references, interviewing protocols and state background checks prior to hiring any employee in the district in an effort to protect our students. None of these security checks revealed anything that would have alerted the district to the possibility of this event." The district said in a statement.
The Canadian County Sheriff's Office reports that they were contacted by the parents of a student who gave them the boy's phone. On the phone, authorities found text messages and nude photographs. The boy's parents were concerned that Day had already had sex with their son and that she was his chemistry teacher. The boy's parents had learned that Day and him had planned to meet Wednesday for sex at her apartment.
Investigators then began using the boy's phone to contact Day to see if the meeting was still on. She allegedly replied "Yes" and told him to hurry and get there before her husband got home from work. She also noted that the door would be unlocked. When investigators arrived, they opened the door and allegedly found Day sitting on the living room floor with the lights turned off, candles lit and wearing a t-shirt and workout shorts. She allegedly admitted to having sex with the boy and sending and receiving nude photographs.
Yukon Public Schools says they are cooperating with the investigation. She has been suspended pending an investigation. Day was hired at the school on an emergency certification and began in August.
