Parents of Brownwood murder victim break down in tears when talking about arrest of alleged killer
BROWNWOOD, Texas - The mother and stepfather of Chantay Blankinship broke down in tears Wednesday night when they announced on Facebook Live that an arrest had been made in the case. "We caught him! We got Chantay's killer behind bars," said Michelle McDaniel, Chantay's mother. RELATED: Sheriff: Brownwood man confesses to killing Chantay Blankinship The Brown County Sheriff's Office said Ryan Derek Riggs, 21, confessed to his congregation at North Lake Community Church. His parents then drove him to the Brown County Law Enforcement Center where he confessed again.
"It breaks my heart because this man went to church with her and he's just a kid himself," McDaniel said. Chantay sang in the choir at North Lake Community Church. Her funeral was also held there. "We got justice for Chantay and that's what we wanted," said Steven McDaniel, Chantay's stepfather. "She can't be replaced. But we got somebody off the streets. I hope he fries." WATCH: https://www.facebook.com/KTXSTelevision/posts/10159767466970624 Blankinship's body was found in May 2016. Riggs is charged with capital murder and illegal dumping. No bond has been set on the capital murder charge. The McDaniels will meet with the detective Thursday to learn more about what Riggs said during his confession.
"Tomorrow we will know everything that happened, how it happened and why it happened to her," Michelle McDaniel said.
