Police: Man in custody after chase through Abilene in stolen car

ABILENE, Texas - One person is in custody after allegedly stealing a car from an Abilene car dealership Monday morning and leading several officers on a chase Monday afternoon.

According to Abilene police, Star Dodge reported a red Chevy Camaro stolen from their lot Monday morning.

A Taylor County Sheriff's Office deputy located the Camaro near South 7th Street and Winters Freeway and attempted to stop the car. The driver, who hasn't been identified yet, didn't stop and sideswiped the deputy's patrol car, police said.

The driver escaped, but police say multiple witnesses reported the Camaro was seen in the north Abilene area. Police went to the area and spotted the car in the alley near the 2700 block of Minter Lane.

Other callers reported that a man was seen running through backyards, according to police. That's when police caught up with the driver and took him into custody.

The driver's charges and bond information will be released later Monday, police told KTXS.
