Police: Abilene woman forged documents to obtain payday loans
ABILENE, Texas - Abilene police say a woman is in custody for forging paperwork to get payday loans in other people's names.
Betty Burleson, 48, was arrested for third-degree felony forgery of a government document Tuesday.
The Abilene Police Department said a search was executed at a residence in the 5200 block of Questa Drive for forged documents. Several forged Social Security Administration income verification forms were found inside the house.
Burleson was taken to the Taylor County Jail and released Tuesday on $15,000 bond.
APD is currently working to identify all of the payday loan businesses and victims affected. The payday loans were reportedly obtained within the past several months, but the scam could have been going on for more than 12 months.
If you have been victimized by the fraud, you're encouraged to contact Det. Gabe Thompson with the APD fraud division at 325-676-6616.
