Road construction: Intersection at Southwest Drive& South Clack to close for 4 weeks

ABILENE, Texas - Beginning Saturday, the intersection of Southwest Drive and South Clack Street will be closed for approximately four weeks as construction work in that area continues.

Expect traffic to be detoured along South Clack Street and Danville Drive.

The underpass "turnarounds" will be open during the construction, a Texas Department of Transportation news release said Friday.

Expected to be completed in early November, the $2.3 million project will result in "durable, long-lasting concrete" being added in the intersection, underpass and turnarounds.

According to TxDOT, a restriction on wide loads will be in place "throughout the duration of the project."

"Delays will be in place throughout the project, but delays should be expected as crew members work to improve this intersection, which is one of the busiest in Abilene," the release said.

The construction schedule includes work on Saturdays and is expected to take place only during daytime hours.

O. Trevino Construction, LLC, of Roanoke, was awarded the project.
